bendtners new shirt

Nicklas Bendtner has today announced that he will change his squad number from 26 to 52. It’s a suprising number but Bendtner has said that he has his own reason for personally choosing this number.

Nicklas has also kindly offered to personally refund every Arsenal fan that bought the “Bendtner 26″ shirt. He said . . .

“Before it starts I wanted to change my squad number from 26 which I’ve obviously had for a number of seasons now. I chose to move to 52 because it’s a special number to me personally, and I hope that it brings me good luck for the new season.

I appreciate that a good number of fans have bought their kits for 2009/10 already with names and numbers printed up so I’d like to personally cover the cost of replacing anyone’s shirt that has my previous number. It means a lot to see supporters wearing your name and number, and I want to ensure people aren’t inconvenienced by the change.

Arsenal went into their first Emirates Cup game today trailing 4 points behind Glasgow Rangers, following the Scottish sides 1-0 win over Paris Saint Germain earlier in the day.  In the Emirates Cup each team participating gains 1 point from every goal they score, so there were sure to be goals over the weekend.

Nicklas Bendtner started todays encounter in a strong looking Arsenal side that included the likes of Tomas Rosicky, Robin Van Persie and William Gallas. Nick would start in a unfurmiliar wide left midfield role in a 4-5-1 formation.

Arsenal’s first chance fell too Tomas Rosicky, who showed what Arsenal have been missing over the last 18 months by firing a well placed shot into the roof of the net. But his joy would be turned to despair as the linesman flagged for offside correctly.

Arsenal then had another chance to score, after good work from Van Persie, Eboue cut in from the left and fired a snap-shot which was parried away by the Spanish goalkeeper. It was 0-0 going into the interval, with Arsenal looking the better side in a game of not many chances.

As the second half began, there would be three substitutions made Gael Clichy, Jack Wilshere and Spaniard Fran Merida would get their chance to try and break down the Atletico goal in the second period. Our featured player Nicklas Bendtner would switch flanks, and move to the right hand side.

Bendtner was involved with Arsenal’s first chance of the second half, Wilshere lofted a ball towards the back post, Bendtner then controlled the ball  in mid air wonderfully but fired wide from a hard angle. Arsenal introduced 3 new subs Eduardo, Andrey Arshavin and Captain Cesc Fabregas. It was the end of Bendtner’s day as he would make way for Russain playmaker Arshavin.

Atletico looked dangerous on the break, and nearly took a shock lead through Maxi Rodriguez, who had a 30 yard strike spilled wide by Italian rookie Vito Mannone. Arsenal took the lead in the 86th minute, Arshavin volleying in towards the back post after good work from Spanish Captain, Cesc Fabregas.

Arsenal looked then relaxed, and were caught sleeping. Pacecho with a cool finish past Mannone, to make it 1-1 in the Emirates Cup. But then 2 minutes later the drama was not over as Arshavin showed magnificent awarness and pace as he latched onto a mistake and rounded the Atletico keeper before slotting in from a very tight angle.

Bendtner Watch:   7:

Nicklas had a decent game today,  he done his job well. He done the simple things well and kept the attacking football going with some nice passes. personally, i think centre forward is Bendtner’s best position alongside another striker. Although he can be very effective from these wide positions proving last season.

Bendtner Grabs A Brace As Arsenal Win Convincingly In Pre Season

Posted in Uncategorized on July 27, 2009 by matthew789

Arsenal played the 3rd Pre Season friendly of the campaign with a short trip from Austria to Hungary to face Hungarian side Haladas. Arsenal opened the scoring in the 17th minute through our featured player Nicklas Bendtner, it was a great cross from Armand Traore and Bendtner done really well to direct his header back across the goal into the bottom corner it was 0-1 to The Arsenal.

Arsenal then doubled their lead 7 minutes later Eduardo was on hand to a Nicklas Bendtner pass to fire home typically it was a good finish from the Brazilian born Croatia striker. Eduardo then doubled his tally directly from a set piece it was now 0-3 to the visitors. Nicklas then got his 4th goal of pre-season in 2 games, Jack Wilshere with a nice reverse pass and Bendtner curling it around the keeper it was a textbook finish fomr the Dane.

In the second half Arsenal made a whole host of changes, Bendtner being one of them, he was replaced by dutchman Robin Van Persie. Ironically, Bendtner would be the man too setup the next goal, Arsenal taking advantage of the pre season rule ” role on-role off” substitutes. Substitute Philippe Senderos long ball over the top found the on running Bendtner who rounded the keeper. Van Persie would fire the penalty into the top corner and it was now 0-5 to Arsenal.

It finished that way another good run out for Bendtner and Arsenal, but a sterner test will come this Wednesday when Arsenal face German Bundesliga outfit Hannover.

      Bendtner Watch:  9

Bendtner looked very lively today, not just his well taken goals but his movement off the ball was top class. Nick’s first goal was a typical centre forward’s header running across the goal and directing it into the bottom corner. He also setup Eduardo for the second goal with a nice pass with the outside of the boot.

Arsenal then took the lead 3 minutes later Aaron Ramsey was the scorer with a low hard drive from 20 yards out, it was a well taken goal. Nicklas then got his second, combinding brilliantly with Aaron Ramsey and then rounding the keeper to tap the ball home. It was now 1-3 to the Gunners going into the interval.
