A below par performance from Arsenal today, saw Aston Villa get a point, it could have been worse though thanks to Nicklas Bendtner Arsenal are still on top of the pack but now only by 1 point. These sort of games could lose Arsenal the title, Arsenal should really be picking up three points but Villa dominated most of the game and Arsenal never really got going.

first half

Both teams was creating chances early on and Theo Walcott looked lively and stung the palms of on loan Liverpool keeper Scott Carson. On the 28th minute Aston Villa took a debatable lead Shaun Maloney threaded a ball through to Gabriel Agbonlahor who looked offside he carried on and took on Gallas he got to the byline cut it back and the ball unfortunately deflecting in off Senderos to give Villa the lead.

Walcott went on a mazy run beating three Villa players but knocked the ball to far ahead of him for a goal kick to Aston Villa, Arsenal was pilling on the pressure, Arsenal broke quickly in stoppage time down the right through Walcott, who delayed his cut-back to Adebayor too long. The African then fed Cesc Fabregas on the overlap, but his attempted chip into the far corner was just over.

second half

Arsenal came firing out the blocks, as Walcott darted in on the right side of the penalty area following a neat one-two with Fabregas and then drilled a low, angled shot which Carson saved well at the near post. then a few minutes later Hleb opened up space for himself but firing hes shot wide from 20 yards.

On 59 minutes Nicklas Bendtner widely expected to start came on for Abou Diaby and instantlly made an impact looking sharp and working hard and showing good link up play with Fabregas and Hleb but Villa began to sit back and didn’t know what to do when they got the ball, most of the time they was forced to hoof the ball clear and towards the end substitute Marlon Harewood broke clear and forced a good save from Manuel Almunia.

towards the end you could see a few nervous Arsenal fans biting nails as 4 minutes was added on, deep into stoppage time the ball came in Emmanuel Adebayor leaping highest knocking it back to Nicklas and he finished well he was in the right place at the right time and showed good striker instincts with basically the last kick of the game.

FULL TIME Arsenal 1-1 Aston villa.
