Cesc Fabregas Stars As Arsenal Claim Famous Victory

Tuesday evening was the second leg of the Champions League last 16, Arsenal started with a 4-5-1 with Adebayor starting on hes own upfront and Hleb just behind him, Diaby on the left, Eboue on the right, Cesc and Flamini in the middle. AC Milan welcomed back Kaka and Pato their two brazilians.

first half

Wenger said before the game that Arsenal must win to put out a message to the rest of Europe, Arsenal clearly took that message out onto the pitch and started very brightly with the ball camped inside Milan’s half with Cesc Fabregas pulling the strings in the middle of the park, Emmanuel Adebayor was leading the line well and was often coming out wide picking up the ball and running at AC Milan’s defence and he did this early on bursting past Nesta and Oddo and squaring it to Cesc Fabregas on the edge of the area, Fabregas hitting a wonderful shot that fizzed of the bar.

this was a sign of things to come for milan as Arsenal outplayed Milan in the first half and looked more like the home team, with Arsenal showing a pass masterclass, Milan where restricted to only a couple of chances first chance was a run from Pato beating three players but then firing wide then a corner from Andrea Pirlo which deflected of Adebayor but cleared off the line by a combination of Fabregas and Almunia. Half Time.

second half
Second half again starting brightly for the gunners, with wenger more than likely saying more of the same to his troops. Arsenal winning a corner Cesc Fabregas whipped it in dangerously finding Philippe Senderos on the back post but he failed to connect properly and went straight into the keepers arms. Then soon after Adebayor linking up well with Emmanuel Eboue, he put the Ivorian in with Eboue 12 yards out and in a tough angl he failed to work Milan keeper Kalac and putting hes effort wide, by now Arsenal should have at least been one goal up.

With Arsenal dominating proceedings Wenger was looking to bring on a fresh face with Walcott, Van Persie, and our featured player Nicklas Bendtner warming up on the sidelines, few moments later English Jet-heeled talent Theo Walcott came on for a straight swap for Eboue and looked to test the ageing Maldini, with hes pace down the right wing. On 84 minutes the ever present Cesc Fabregas burst past Andrea Pirlo and Gattuso and from all of 35 yards hit a low shot to the keepers right side and put Arsenal into a 1-0 lead at the San Siro, with only 6 minutes left it was more then likely now that Arsene Wengers Young Troops were going through to the quarters.

Then in the last few minutes the ball was kicked down field and Theo Walcott showing great attitude chasing the ball and not favourite to get to the ball, but somehow got the first before Kaladze, dribbling past Kaladze he took a kick at Theo Walcott but Theo stayed on his feet and squared a great ball for Emmanuel Adebayor to grab the second goal and his 23rd goal of the season and Arsenal claiming a famous win at the San Siro, jubialant scenes at the end from the travelling gooners, it was all round a great night for Arsenal.

Nicklas was an unused substitute in this game but will hopefully get hes chance on sunday against Wigan, Arsenal hope to stretch the lead to 4 points, a match preview will come on saturday night. What a famous night for us 😀 come on you gunners!
