Bendtner: I Can Play With Adebayor
Arsenal’s Nicklas Bendtner has rubbished suggestions that he cannot play alongside Emmanuel Adebayor after the pair clashed in January’s Carling Cup semi-final against Tottenham.
The two team-mates squared up in an ill-tempered incident and had to be dragged apart by captain William Gallas.
But after starting together for the first time against Wigan, Bendtner has hit back at critics who claim he and the Togo striker are too similar to form an effective partnership.
Bendtner said: “People keep saying we are too similar in style and things like that, but I think it can work just fine. If you remember, we combined for the goal against Aston Villa.
“I think it went quite well (against Wigan). We found each other a few times, but it wasn’t easy on that surface, especially for two strikers to link up. I thought it worked okay.
“I think it’s good for me to be able to help the team in whatever way I can. This season it was very important for us as a team, as a club and for the supporters to show everyone that we are at the top of English football.
“I feel that’s where we belong and where we have always belonged. If we can carry on and get a trophy, it will be fantastic.”
Despite drawing their last four league encounters, Bendtner says the Gunners are determined to grab a win in Sunday’s crucial league game against Chelsea.
“We have to come out with loads of determination, power, energy and will and really show that we can come back to winning ways in the league.
“It’s very important for us to push on now, we cannot allow any more points to be dropped now, otherwise we won’t make it – as simple as that.”
