Arsenal 1-1 Liverpool Match Report
Arsenal’s players will have to put in another performance similar to the one at the San Siro if they want to progress to the last 4 of the Uefa Champions League, It will be a hostile atmosphere at Anfield but the young gunners have done it before so they know what they have to do in next weeks tie, pre match spirits were high at and as the Arsenal players walked out of the Emirates tunnel the tune “The wonder of you” by elvis presley ringed around the ground with flags and scarfs been held aloft by the Arsenal fans.
The match started very cautiously both teams playing it like a chess game, no one was willing to take a risk early on as everybody knows this is knockout football and one mistake can be a disaster, in the 2nd minute a long ball was kicked down field and Emmanuel Adebayor chased it Pepe Reina came out and totally missed the ball Adebayor collected it on the other side but Reina regained himself and blocked the ball for a throw to Arsenal, the match started to settle down and Arsenal was looking for a goal Fabregas swung a corner in met by right back for the night Kolo Toure who headed wide, then Robin Van Persie picked the ball up on the edge of the area and shot low to Reina’s left but it was a great save from Reina, from the resulting corner the goal came Van Persie playing it short to Fabregas he returned it to Van Persie who swinged in a magnificent swerving & powerful cross met by the high leaping Emmanuel Adebayor first blood to the gunners with 23 minutes gone.
3 minutes later Liverpool equalised Steven Gerrard ran into the box and squared it for the on rushing Dirk Kuyt to slide the ball in, after the goal Liverpool gained confidence and kept the ball and looked contempt on the scoreline been the way it was, both teams had the ball on the edge of the area’s but couldn’t find the killer pass, as the Half time whistle went teams went into the dressing rooms at the score 1-1.
As both teams came out of the tunnel, Englishman Theo Walcott was been prepared, with dissapointing news that Robin Van Persie had picked up an injury on hes left thigh the same injury he has had for the most of this season. Theo Walcott looked lively and picked up the ball 25 yards out and unleashed a magnificent drive that just beat the post Pepe Reina appeared to get a hand to it but the refeere gave a goal kick. On the 65 minute Liverpool had a big let off first Adebayor played a great one two with Walcott, he cut it back and Eboue’s shot was cleared off the line by Skrtel, then as the ball was cleared away Alexander Hleb picked the ball up before beating four men magnificently with a beautiful piece of skill was manhandled inside the area by Dirk Kuyt, penalty? no, Hleb was shocked and so was the rest of the stadium it was a blatant penalty but the refeere did not give it.
With 24 minutes remaining our featured player Nicklas Bendtner was introduced, and he was in the thick of the action causing Liverpool centre half pairing Hyypia and Skrtel problems in the air, and dropping off collecting the ball and linking well with teammates. Walcott ran to the byline crossed it in and Fabregas met it beautifully it was going in but Bendtner couldnt get himself out of the way, it was unfortunate and came at him so quick he didn’t have time to think, Arsenal continued to press and Adebayor whipping a cross in that Fabregas met with a header but Reina saved it. The ref blew his final whistle and part 1 0f 3 was over for the trioligy of games between Arsenal & Liverpool was completed. Arsenal dominated most parts of the game and Liverpool somehow hung on, both teams meet on Saturday for the Premiership clash with both teams likely to be rotated.
